Bright Stars picked up a 2-0 victory from the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Tuesday courtesy of Nelson Ssenkatuka’s first-half brace. The seven-time SUPL champions were reduced to 10 men with a quarter of an hour played when Daniel Shabene was shown marching orders in the 15th minute for a bad tackle on Cleophus Fiat. Although the hosts were a player less for larger spells in this game, they put up a spirited fight, especially in the second half. The SUPL joint-leading goal scorer Allan Kayiwa should have added to his five goals in the 46th minute but he missed a penalty when his effort rattled off the woodwork.

Express had a couple of more half-chances as they tried hard to chase a comeback in this encounter but it was never going to be as it ended 2-0 in favour of the visitors. It was also the Red Eagles’ second defeat this season having also lost by the same scoreline away to their rivals SC Villa. Before the loss to Bright Stars, James Odoch’s charges had won three consecutive games against Onduparaka FC, BUL FC, and Busoga United FC.

REACTION

James Odoch – Head Coach

“We did not start the game well and that is how we conceded the first goal and after receiving a red card they scored their second goal. But we later grew in confidence and in the second half were without a doubt the best team and had Kayiwa scored the penalty a lot would have changed but unfortunately, he missed it. But I was generally impressed with the reaction of the players after we conceded two goals and also received a red card.”
