RICHARD BBOSA; A YOUNG GEM THAT BRINGS REAL VIBES TO EXPRESS FC

Having a ride with Express FC is like a voyage to the biggest party on earth. The team bus is never short of humour as the latest club bangers blare through its hi-tech surround system.

As is the norm in several sports franchises set-ups, some players sing along as the better half snore away with headsets helping their cause.

There is one man who takes credit for these positive vibes on a daily basis. A young multi-skilled man that is full of energy with literally no dull moment in his life, His name is Richard Bbosa.

As soon as the first gear of the bus is engaged and before everyone settles into their seats, the young versatile defender is at it. He continuously sends shout-outs to his teammates especially if the song or artist indirectly has a message that can relate to any of the players and technical committee members to the cheers and amusement of the park.

Budding defender

But Bbosa is not your everyday Disc Jockey (DJ) earning a living from spinning discs. Bbosa is a breadwinner who makes ends meet as a budding center back-cum-holding midfielder earning his mileage through the ranks at the club.

Signed at the start of the 2020/21 season, from Super Cubs an academy, Bbosa joined the Red Army as an understudy of the mainstays and it was then that he earned a called up to the National U-17 Cubs team and forthwith helped them to the 2020 Council of East and Central Africa  (CECAFA) title in Dar es Salaam.

During the first round last season when the Red Eagles hit the road to Mbarara to face the Ankole Lions, Richard Bbosa made the trip but the lanky rookie didn’t even know what lay ahead. With the game tied at 1-1 after the breather and the Eagles lacking a natural holding midfielder, coach Wasswa Bbosa summoned his namesake for the unlikeliest of debuts.

And Boy, oh boy! Did he execute his job as Express FC managed a point!

Bbosa has managed three games this season across all competitions and is steadily growing into his own man and coach Wasswa Bbosa is full of belief that his namesake has a bright future ahead.

Good reviews

“Richard Bbosa is a gem,” said the club coach. “He has all the qualities of a good player and is grounded. Last season, he didn’t play as much because he had to first settle in, this season I feel like he has developed more because the Uganda Cup game which he played said it all. He still needs to improve but so far so good.”

Club captain Enock Walusimbi along with experienced center back Murushid Juuko, too, are optimistic that the young Bbosa can only get better.

“Bbosa is a good lad, very disciplined and hardworking,” started Walusimbi.
“Each time he has gotten the opportunity to play he has given his all and for me that’s what you need to succeed,” added Walusimbi before Juuko chipped in with words of advice that Bbosa will need to be consistent with his performances.

“Bbosa is one for the future without a doubt. But to be consistent, he must stay focused and disciplined on and off the pitch. I believe he has learnt a lot from the senior players in the team and that will help him as he continued.”

Good going
Asked about his time at the club so far, Richard Bbosa was in awe of the set-up, adding that he can only repay back the faith by working harder.

“I am greatly indebted to the head coach Wasswa Bbosa, his technical team and my fellow players for trusting me. Playing at Express FC is any player’s dream and I can only repay the faith by working harder and being consistent.”

As the second round of the  StarTmes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) returns, Bbosa has the perfect vibes the Eagles need for the gruelling back-end of the season and the upcoming star will be hoping to rope in as many minutes as possible to help his side retain the coveted league title.
