MATCH REPORT: The Red Eagles Munch Up On The Caterpillars To Record First Home Win Against Them.

Express FC kept their title charge intact with a 2 – 0 win over Onduparaka FC on Wednesday evening at the Betway Muteesa II stadium Wankulukuku.

Forward Erick Kambale scored twice in the second half to ensure the maximum points.

The hosts came out of the blocks fast launching attack after attack but couldn’t just open the scoring. Just three minutes in, Charles Musiige made the run on the left and found Martin Kizza who reached the box but blasted his shot wide.

Musiige wasn’t done yet, he again found Erick Kambale on the right three minutes later but the latter misqued his shot.

The lanky forward could have opened the scoring in the 25th minute but his goal bound shot was calmly collected by Steven Kagiri and that was just about it at the break.

After recess, the boys came out recharged, substitute Frank Kalanda who came for John Byamukama in the 61st minute had the best chance to kill off the game but his effort in the 74th minute kissed the cross bar and went out.

But that wasn’t the end of the story, five minutes later, Erick Kambale stepped up controlling Martin Kizza’s pass before he calmly slotted home with a powerful left footed strike to send the home crowd into wild celebrations.

And as the game was winding down, Ivan Mayanja was fouled from the left flank, up stepped Martin Kizza whose low drive freekick was headed home by Erick Kambale for his second on the day.

“Firstly this win is huge, we expected to win but the boys played with alot of determination, Onduparaka players spent alot of time on the floor (getting treatment) but the boys didn’t give up, we used our chances and here we are, next up is preparing for the Stanbic Uganda Cup”.

“I am so happy we won the game, it’s a very important win for the team, the boys gave everything and we worked as a unit, next up is preparing for the Stanbic Uganda Cup where we play URA FC this Saturday”.

The win meant Express FC picked up their first win over Onduparaka at home and takes the Red Eagles to 43 points, four behind table leaders URA FC and three behind second placed Vipers S.C.
