MATCH REPORT: EXPRESS EARNS MAIDEN WIN OF THE SEASON.
Express FC registered its first win of the 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season courtesy of a 1-0 home victory over URA FC on Saturday. Allan Kayiwa scored the all-important goal from a free kick at the restart of the second half which was also his second goal in two games in the Express colours.
The Red Eagles started the game as the best side threatening to break the deadlock but the visitors were resilient.
Anwaru Mustafa Ntege and Joseph Akandwanaho had their efforts from distance dealt with by the opposition goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi inside the opening ten minutes.
As the game progressed, the seven-time Uganda Premier League champions continued to press URA against the wall but could only afford a host half chances, and goalless it finished at the interval.
The biggest moment of the game arrived in the 48th minute when Kayiwa’s stunning free-kick found the top left corner for the Red Eagles to take the lead.
There was hunger for more goals amongst the Express players as they continued to dominate possession and creating several chances.
Express was unlucky not to score a second goal at the death mark when Anwaru Mustafa Ntege’s effort sailed slightly wide past the low post with goalkeeper Alionzi beaten.
Victory took the Red Eagles into fourth place on the 15-team Uganda Premier League log with four points from two games.
