Express FC’s third fixture this season didn’t go as planned after a 2- 0 loss to arch rivals SC Villa in the Star Times Uganda premier league on Friday evening at Muteesa II Stadium – Wankulukuku.
SC Villa’s midfielder Ivan Sserubiri and Bbaale Charles’ 55th and 57th minute goals respectively earned them a win.

The Red Eagles started well but couldn’t make it count in the final third as SC Villa remained patient until their moment of truth happened in the second half. A couple of chances from the Reds in the first half failed to be converted in order to earn maximum points from the derby.
Allan Kayiwa’s crucial chance in the 31st minute was tapped out by Villa’s Elungat. Minutes later (35), Joseph Akandwanaho also had his eyes on goal but his efforts were punched out by the shot stopper (Villa’s Elungat).

After recess, James Odoch’s side looked fired up with more intentions on goal, 49 minutes passed, Allan Kayiwa’s powerful effort to goal was punched out by Elungat and 55 minutes later, skipper Isa Lumu fouled Sheif Batte earning Villa a free kick which was converted by Ivan Sserubiri, in 57th minute Ivan bogere scored the second for the home side.
The Red Eagles never ceased attacking the opposite side for an opener and in the 64th minute akandwanaho’s shot was punched out by Elungat.
This is the Red Eagles’ first loss of the season and keeps them in 5th position on 4 points after 3 matches played.

“I thank the boys for the kind of display on pitch. It was a derby and any result would be expected. We dominated the game and Villa was on the lucky side using the chances they had well. We will work on the mistakes observed such that we be the better side in our next game.”

“We came with an aim of winning the derby but failed to capitalize on our chances, it was the opposite for villa as they used the chances well. However we’re not crestfallen as we shall go back and correct the mistakes so that we bounce back stronger
The Red Eagles will now turn their attention to the soldier boys’ side Gadaffi football club.”
