We are ready as always – Mutanga

Isaac Mutanga has captained the team in the last two games under the new coaching team and they have managed to be successful in both of them.

Even after the come back of Michael Birungi he kept the armband and led the boys past Police.

Tomorrow against Maroons he may as well be the leader in a must win game at Wankulukuku.

We talked to him about the game tomorrow and his team and below is what he said.

Express v Maroons | UPL | Betway Mutesa II Stadium | Thursday 21st February | Kick off 4:30pm

On the game against Maroons…

We are ready as always and we are sure we shall win it, the way I’m seeing the boys as a leader when we are going for the challenge I see how determined the boys are, how ready we are and now I can say we are well prepared.

On playing as a defensive midfielder under coach Sim…

In football you have to know that every coach has his own ways and as a player we don’t have a permanent number every coach sees something different in you according to the system he plays. So coach Sim in his system he sees me in deep six and has to build his team around me that’s why it is hard for the opponents to get many shots on goal because I’m the curtain to our back four and I force opponents to put the balls in the wings but not passes in the middle to reach our back easily.

On whether he has ever played that role…

Yes, when I played in Congo for Bukavu that’s the role I was playing I went as a centre back but the coach changed me and told me to play that role for him and his philosophy is quite similar to that of coach Sim.

On what has changed under coach Sim in defending…

In most cases we concede because we might be playing a system and most players don’t understand it well but now the system we play player understood it very well and they give their all.

On Nana’s injury whether it will force him to play in defense…

I’m a football and I play anywhere the coach asks me to play never be surprised if you see me play as a centre forward if he tells me to play there, wherever there is a gap I can fill that gap so never be surprised. I have played all those numbers in my career.

Two wins in two games the morale has to be high….

Yeah, it is really high and we shall build on that tomorrow.
