#WAREXP | FT’ 1-2 | How It Happened

The Red Eagles left it late against Big League side Water FC to qualify for the Uganda Cup round of 16.

The game started with Express as the better side as many would expect but the host grew as the game went on and fancied them selves to get a chance.

Odur got our first chance after a nice cut back from by Mubaraka Nsubuga from the right but his shot went wide.

Two minutes later Odur got another chance from the midfield he controlled well and looped past the keeper into an empty net but the assistant ref waved him for offside.

Birungi got another chance from the right after some nice play by Pius Mbidde but his shot was deflected and went out for a corner. The resultant corner was brought in by Disan Galiwango and Water cleared it away.

Odur got another chance after 40 minutes but his header was week and the keeper saved it. The keeper got injured and he was stretchered off.

The ref showed three minutes off added time and the Red Eagles kept pushing for a breakthrough.

Water nearly got a goal from no where after their attack beat our left back and was left one on one with Mutebi. Mutebi stood tall in our goal and superbly saved to keep the scoreline level.

A minute later Odur was on the receiving end of a long ball from the midfield and controlled before being knocked by the keeper. The ref had no chance but to point at the spot.
Tony Odur stepped up and slotted past the keeper into the bottom corner to give us the lead.

The Coaches made a sub at halftime bringing on Kayiwa in the place of Kigonya to increase the attack upfront.

Water stepped up their game and found the equalizer in the 48th minute. A loose ball was poorly cleared with the back line poorly placed and Revita scored in his own net as he attempted to clear the ball off the line. Unlucky he was after putting in a very good performance.

Birungi came close again as we pressed for a winner. Odur brought down a ball for him in the area but his shot went wide.

With only 12 minutes to go Kayiwa got a chance after some nice play with Birungi but the ball went a whisker wide.

Water got the belief they can take the game to penalties and kept shape as well as defending well.

Youngster Billy Nkata was brought in the 80th and had a shot cameo.

Isaac Mutanga replaced Disan Galiwango in the 86th minute after the left back was injured and failed to complete a game for the first time this season.

The fourth official showed 3 minutes of added time after the ninety.

With one minute into added time Michael Birungi collected the ball from the left and crossed nicely in the area and found Kayiwa unmarked. The attacker rose highest and powered his header into the top corner to give us the lead and the winning goal. That was Kayiwa’s 4th goal of the season and probably the most important so far.

The goal meant that the Red Eagles are through to the Uganda Cup Round of 16.
