The Red Eagles succumbed to a 2-0 loss at Kitende on matchday 22

Former Red Eagle Dan Muzeyi Serunkuma scored at the beginning of each half to give the hosts three points.

Vipers started the game on a high as expected and caused an early scare but our defense was alert and defended well to keep the scores level.

After six minutes they came back through youngster Aziz Kayondo marauding past our defense to set up Dan Serunkuma and the latter slotted in at the far to give the hosts the lead with our keeper covering the near post.

Vipers again came back through Tito Okello but the striker put his header wide.

Dan Serunkuma again got a chance from a Tito Okello’s cross and miss timed the ball and just went via the outside of the post.

Former Red Eagle Taddeo Lwanga and now Vipers captain also got another chance after the Red Eagles failed to clear their lines from an Ibrahim Thembo’s long throw but his shot went a whisker wide at the far post.

Dan Serunkuma again got a chance at the stroke of halftime from an Innocent Wafula cross and he put his shot well over the bar with everyone nearly beaten in our defense.

Express got their chance only once in the first half but Michael Birungi’s shot was weak and the keeper saved it.

The hosts went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Express technical team made two changes. Sadiq Ssekyembe got his debut after replacing Shafiq Kakeeto who started from left back.
Tony Odur also came on in the place of Joel Male.

Dan Serunkuma was at the end of things again with only five minutes gone in the second half. He collected the defense splitting pass from their midfielder Abram Ndugwa and went through on goal to slot past Muwanga in our goal to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.

Vipers got another clear cut chance through Tito Okello but the striker decided to acrobatically head his ball and it went wide with only the keeper to beat.

Express made a final change when we brought on Mbidde for injured Charles Lubega.

Express’ best chance of the game came with only five minutes go. A long ball from midfield beat Vipers defender Halid Lwaliwa and Odur got in front of him and decided to lob it over Mutombora but the ball went over the bar as the keeper closed him down and collided with him. Odur thought to have been fouled but the ref didn’t hid to his shouts.

Express finished the game with 9 men after Mubaraka Nsubuga was fouled and he was stretchered off with two minutes gone of the 4 added by the officials.

What next for the Red Eagles?

The Red Eagles will be back in Uganda Premier League action against Mbarara City on Tuesday 5th March at Wankulukuku.
