
The Red Eaglets’ Story At The CECAFA U17 Championship.
Uganda’s U17 boys’ national football team the Cubs has all reasons to smile following their 3 – 1 win Tanzania to claim the CECAFA U17 title in Rubavu, Rwanda.
Express FC was heavily represented by six eaglets with goalkeeper Henry Mwebe topping the best performers after he received the golden glove award (best goalkeeper), here we take you through how the eaglets performed.
Henry Mwebe.

The 16-year-old goalkeeper was a star man of the contingent, the youngster kept two clean sheets in the group stages with the cubs scoring a combined total of eight goals. He then went on and kept a third clean sheet in the 1 – 0 semi final win over Djibouti before conceding his first goal in the 3 – 1 final win.

Humphrey Oyirwoth (G.K.)

The 16-year-old didn’t have a look-in due to stiff competition from his teammate Mwebe and another goalkeeper Abdu Magada but had great experience working with the team and goalkeeping coach Mubarak Kiberu.
Peter Gava (Centre Back)

ClubPeter Gava warming up before kick off.The towering centre back was part of a solid backline that saw club teammate Henry Mwebe keep three clean sheets. He also nodded home the Cubs’ fourth goal on match day 1 against Kenya.
Shugai Kaliisa (Midfielder)

The Express U17s captain started the first two group games against Kenya and Ethiopia but was coming on as a substitute against Djibouti and Tanzania in the final. Despite being deployed as a center back at Express coach Hamza Lutalo deploys him in defensive midfield.
Samir Mudiba (Midfielder)

The midfielder unlike his captain at Express Kaliisa started in the knockout stages against Djibouti and Tanzania in the semifinals and finals respectively. The group games he started from the bench but later became an important cog in coach Hamuza Lutalo’ steam.
Hassan Mubiru (Forward)

The forward Started against Kenya in the second game of the tournament and made a couple of substitute appearances in the knockout stages as he continues his growth after winning the CECAFA U-15s championships in Ethiopia in 2018.
