Police edge Express 2-1 in previous season friendly
The Red Eagles lost there first friendly match against fellow premier league side Police FC. They led through an own goal by Police midfielder Ashraf Mugume who deflected in his own net Arthur Kiggundu’s freekick but the cops rallied from Behind through a superb freekick by leftfooted Ruben Kimera who gave no chance to Ronald Mutebi in the Express goal to save and Johnson Odong who struck well a low shot again Mutebi couldn’t do anything about after Express defence led by Shafik Nana Kakeeto failed to clear their lines.
All goals came in the second half after the first half ended 0-0. Express had various chanced through; Tony Odur, Ibrahim Kayiwa, Mubarak Nsubuga and Captain Birungi Michael but all failed to deliver. The Police goalkeeper Davis Mutebi also deserves some credit for saves on three occasions but the outstanding was the one against Mubarak Nsubuga’s low shot and another against Eric Kambale’s snap shot controlling with right then let’s fly with left but Mutebi was equal to it sending it to a corner.
Express looked jaded in the end of the game and had little answers to Police’s relentless attacks and short passes coupled with a lot of missed chances most especially in the first half before Kisala made a lot of changes in his team for the second half.
Express head coach Kefa Kisala had this to say after the game.
“We have played against a second premier league team and lost 2-1 the first one was against Soana FC and we drew 0-0. We have a team which can do well and achieve our target but we still have weaknesses most especially not scoring despite creating a lot of chances. But we shall work on that and make sure we take our chances because in football the one who scores more, wins. We can play well, exciting but we have to take our chances. We also have a problem of goalkeeping but we shall also sort it out before the season starts on 28th September”
The Red Eagles will be playing more friendly games in the coming weeks before the season starts so that they get good match fitness ahead of a very demand season.
