#EXPBRI | Match Preview
The Red Eagles will be back in action today 1st May against Bright Stars 3 days after playing against them in the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup at Mwererwe ending in a 1-1 draw.
Here’s everything you need to know about the fixture.
Team News
The Red Eagles will be without Defender Arthur Kiggundu and striker Eric Kambale. Kiggundu is out due to a leg injury suffered in the game against Bright Stars while Kambale is still nursing an ankle injury suffered in the game against KCCA at Lugogo.
Kambale is expected to be back in training on Thursday 2nd May while Arthur is expected to be back on Monday 6th May.
There were knocks to Badru Nsubuga and Brian Umony in the Uganda Cup game against Bright Stars on Sunday but recovered on time and they are available for selection today.
How Bright Stars are faring in the league.
They had a very good start and they were top of the league after the first two games scoring lots of goals. Later midway through the season they suffered a dip in form and slipped down the bottom half of the table. In the closing stages of the league they rediscovered their form though it looked a little late. They are now 9th in the league league with 38 points from 28 games. A win for Express means the Red Eagles will fly over them on the log.
Who is their coach?
Bright Stars are coached by Uganda Cranes goalkeepers’ coach Fred Kajoba one of the few former goalkeepers who are coaching in the league. He has assembled a very physical side hard to beat home or away. Another battle against them at Wankulukuku will be another contest to reckon.
Players to watch.
Methodius Jungu.
The short stout Bright Stars number 10 is a thorn in the opponents defense running down the right wing. Against us at Mwererwe he entered as a substitute and constantly troubled our left back Arthur Kiggundu who was unfortunately injured 13 minutes to the 90 minutes mark.
In their last game against BUL at Njeru the diminutive attacker was named the man of the match and they went on to win 2-1. We have to keep an eye on him.
How our last meeting ended.
We have already played Bright Stars two times this season and we still have two times to go. The first in the league ended 1-1 Kambale scoring for us and Brian Kayanja equalised for Bright Stars. In the Uganda Cup semifinal first leg still at Mwererwe Birungi scored for us and Senkatuka equalized later for Bright Stars from a penalty. Express avoiding defeat in both away games and we shall host the remaining two games which we need to get the best out of.
