Sam Kawalya sets sights on strengthening goalkeeping department
Any goalkeeper would want to learn from an experienced figure like Sam Kawalya especially at Express FC.
Being goalkeeping coach means the former goal minder is directly involved in team preparations for the new season so much so that Kawalya is critically accessing how best he can limit the leakage in between the sticks when the league kicksoff.
“Everyone knows that the strength of any team starts from the back (GK), that said, it’s key to learn from our mistakes last season so we shall have to work more on concentrating in games but also work extra hard to have as many clean sheets” the soft spoken coach told the club website.
Express FC last season scored 30 goals but leaked in 37 goals two off the relegated Tooro United who leaked in the most (39).
Kawalya is a former Cranes international but also kept goal for the Red Eagles between 1999 and 2003 before having brief spells with Victors, Binh Doung FC in Vietnam and Simba. He’s also had coaching spells at various Uganda Premier League sides.
