Sadiq Ssekyembe started his first game for Express against Bright Stars on Wednesday 1st May and put in a man of the match performance.

The young left back joined Express from Katwe United in January he made 3 assists and helped the Red Eagles win 3-1.

We talked to him after the game and below is what he said.

On the game…

It was a good game, we managed to get the three points and it gives us the energy to do more in the next Uganda Cup game with the same team to prepare our team and move forward. I have spent long without playing football but I managed to come in the team and made three assists to give the team a win. There are some mistakes but we shall rectify them to help our team grow because it’s the reason as to why we are here.

On his crossing and dead ball skill…

My coaches have been helping me and I have been putting in the work as well every day training that skill personally. I am not so surprised doing it because I work on it every day.

On assisting three goals on his first start for Express and in the league…

It gives me courage. It shows that if you work hard you will get the reward. I have been working hard and they always told me that my time will come. I prayed to God to have some assists as well and he has answered these things deserve daily work and the mistakes will be corrected.

On containing Bright Stars’ tricky right winger Jungu…

He had a good performance and he is a good player he has ball work and stamina so as a defender I have to defend my side to always be on time. There are some mistakes and he may go past you because he is a good player but you have to say alert all the time to contain him. A good player you can not defend him all the time but you have to keep monitoring him all the time.
