Resolve, Unity Behind Our Good Performance – G.K Coach Daniel Kiwanuka.

The 2019/20 league season is one of many in the recent past that Express FC wouldn’t want to remember. A 9th place finish with 37 goals conceded tells a different story today, a better one at that especially in the goalkeeping department.

Led by Daniel Kiwanuka and Sam Kawalya, Express FC ended the first round with 7 league goals conceded, the least by any team and both former shotstoppers acknowledge it’s been resolve and hardwork.

Goalkeepers; L-R: Sadat Mugenyi, Crispus Kusiima, Denis Otim and Mathias Muwanga having a light moment with coach Kiwanuka after training at Wankulukuku.

“For me it’s been unity, the defenders and G.K’s have been working together as a department but also we’ve worked hard because we’ve always corrected the mistakes from all goals we’ve conceded (7)”.

Sam Kawalya who is also part of the department emphasized that all goalkeepers at the club have the opportunity to make the starting line up.

“All the G.Ks at the club are good but their timing is different but we train as a unit, everyone has an edge over the other, Mathias Muwanga has a better edge because of his experience”.

As the second round nears, Sam Kawalya adds that the focus is to keep the unity and hardwork.

“We shall continue to correct our first round mistakes, although we’ve conceded 7, we can reduce the number, we shall continue to work harder and as a unit,

Daniel Kiwanuka was quick to stress that the team will look at keeping more 8 clean sheets which can help the team win.

“We’re at 8 clean sheets, if we add another 8 it means we shall have reduced the leakage at the back, it also gives us the chance to win the title”.
