The Red Eagles got back to winning ways in style at Kakyeeka after beating home side Nyamityobora 2-0 thanks to second half goals from January signings Frank Zaga Tumwesigye and Brian Umony.
The first half started with both teams being conscious in attack and defense.
Nyamityobora got the better chances in the first half but Muwanga in our goal and the defense were equal to them.
Nuamityobora got an early corner but was nicely headed away by Kiggundu. Another chance came from a header in the 28th minute and went a whisker wide with Muwanga stuck on his line. It was a huge let off for the visitors.
Nyamityobora got another free kick on the edge of the box and it was well saved by a calm and composed Muwanga in our goal.
Another free kick was awarded and struck nicely Muwanga again jumped and punched it into a corner for Nyamityobora.
Zaga, Express’ best player on the day tried a couple of defense splitting passes but they were blocked by Nyamityobora.
The best chance for Express came in the 36th minute, Brian Umony was fouled and Express awarded a free kick. Revita stood behind the ball and delivered a well weighed ball to Kayiwa but the midfielder’s header was weak and saved by the keeper.
The first half ended with both teams lacking the much needed goal.
Express made a change at the break Pius Mbidde replacing injured Mubaraka Nsubuga.
With only 3 minutes played in the second half Disan Galiwango collected a loose ball on the left flank and drove forward up to the byline and crossed a very nice ball to Zaga. The midfielder made no mistake he just tapped it into the goal to give us the lead and score his first Express and league goal.
Nyamityobora upped the tempo in search for an equalizer. Goal keeper Muwanga was called into action he saved a venomous shot and the rebound went wide.
Express got a corner at the hour mark and Disan swung in a nice one and there was a fumble in the box the Express players had penalty appeals but the ref waved play on.
Nyamityobora had another screamer from outside the box from their substitute Maseruka but it went wide and Muwanga was not troubled at all.
Express were forced into another change after goal scorer Zaga got injured in the 74th minute. Lawrence Kigoonya was called on by the technical team to replace him.
With 10 minutes to go the hosts looked for the elusive equalizer as the Red Eagles kept it tight at the back. The hosts nearly got the equalizer in 84th minute from a shot which Muwanga saved and the rebound was blocked by Disan Galiwango. Disan again headed away the resultant corner after marking the near post.
The Red Eagles got the second goal with only 2 minutes to the 90th minute mark. A long clearance from midfield was poorly calculated by Nyamityobora’s keeper and fell to Brian Umony who was following he nutmegged the keeper and scored in an empty net his first goal as an Express player and our second of the day.
The fourth official added 5 minutes after the 90 minutes with the Red Eagles having a comfortable lead. The lads managed them well and kept a clean sheet with two goals scored and three points. What a way to get back to winning ways.
What next for the Red Eagles?
The Red Eagles will host Police at Wankulukuku on Monday 18th in a Uganda Cup round of 16 tie.
