MATCH REPORT: The Red Eagles Soar Over UPDF FC To Keep Home Unbeaten Run Intact.

Express FC managed an 8th home league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over UPDF FC on Saturday evening at the Betway Muteesa II stadium Wankulukuku.

Forward Erick Kambale scored from 12 yards to seal the deal.

The game started off on a slow pace especially with the home side but UPDF FC attacked more but just couldn’t convert their chances.

Express FC then engaged a higher gear using more of the flanks and could have took the lead on 8 minutes had UPDF FC goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa not spilled Godfrey Lwesibawa’s shot, the former was at it again in the 22nd minute but this time it counted, he found space on the right flank and as he made his way into the box UPDF FC defender Benard Muwanga clobbered him from the back leaving center referee Olem George with no option but to point to the spot. Erick Kambale stepped up and converted taking his league goal tally to a dozen.

The visitors could have leveled the score at the stroke of half time when Mathias Muwanga misjudged Charles Ssebutinde’s long drive but it bounced awkwardly and hit the cross bar sending the home side into the break with the lead.

After recess, the visitors continued pressing harder but just couldn’t penetrate the hosts’ defence.
Godfrey Lwesibawa could have sealed it in the 64th minute but his audacious chip agonizingly went past the post and that was just about it.

The win takes the Red Eagles to 52 points after 24 league games played but remain third on the log.

REACTIONS.

Wasswa Bossa – Head Coach.

“This was a hard fought win, UPDF FC is a stubborn team and they’ve always gotten points here but today the boys put in a good shift, we need to better our conversation rate infront of goal and that’s what we shall concentrate on ahead of our next game away to Busoga United on Tuesday”.

“We’ve managed to win the game because we played as a unit and also the boys have the winning mentality, it was a tough one, for us what is important is to keep winning because we don’t care about what other teams especially those above us are performing so we just have to keep going”.
