MATCH REPORT: Frank Kalanda Wins It For Express FC Away To Kitara.

Express FC picked up a hard fought 1 – 0 win away to Kitara on Tuesday evening in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League in the game played at Kavumba Recreation Center Grounds in Wakiso.

Forward Frank Kalanda stepped up and converted from 12 yards after Kitara’s Mugume Patrick handled the ball in the forbidden area.

Frank Kalanda yet to miss from the spot as a Red Eagle.

The hosts started well building play from the back and the backline of Murushid Juuko and Issa Lumu had to contain the numerous attacks.

George Senkaaba’s header that glanced over the cross bar off an Arthur Kiggundu’s freekick in the 20th minute and Charles Musiige’s mezzy run on the right through the Kitara defence but blazed his effort over the bar in the 43rd minute wrapped up the first half.

After recess, the hosts kept pushing for an opener but a vibrant Abel Etrude kept intercepting Kitara’s attacks in the midfield.

Youngster Ivan Mayanja replaced Kayiwa in the first half to join Yaya and Etrude in the midfield.

Head coach Wasswa Bossa then brought on forward Frank Kalanda in the 50th minute for George Ssenkaaba who had picked up an ankle injury, Kalanda didn’t disappoint stepping up to calmly convert from the spot with 15 minutes to go after center referee Asadu Ssemere penalized Mugume Patrick for handling the ball in the forbidden area.

The win was Express FC’s fourth on the road and seventh in total and takes the Red Eagles back to the top of the log one point ahead of league champions Vipers who play on Wednesday.

Bbosa praised the boys for their resilience against a hard Kitara side.

“For us winning is priority, I said it before that Kitara is a good side, as seen today, they really played well but I thank the boys who have been resilient all through so we move again onto the next game (Vs Busoga) on Friday”.

Forward – Frank Kalanda.

All eyes were on Frank Kalanda and he delivered like he has always done from the spot since rejoining the club last season.

“I am glad to have scored my first goal in many games, for me this gives me alot of confidence, but for the team, this is a massive boost for the upcoming games.”

Next up for the Red Eagles is Busoga United on Friday.
