MATCH REPORT | Express FC Salvage A Point Away In Mbarara.

StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

Mbarara City 1-1 Express FC.

The Red Eagles salvaged a point away to Mbarara City Football Club on Wednesday at the Kakyeeka stadium.

Right winger Godfrey Lwesibawa opened the scoring for the Red Eagles from a direct free kick in the 23rd minute but burly defender Soulyamane Bamba made amends in the 77th minute heading home from a corner to help the hosts nick a point.

Express FC started off well with forward George Ssenkaaba bulldozing the visitors’ backline at any opportunity available.

George Senkaaba gave the Mbarara City defense problems.

Wasswa Bbosa’s charges managed to contain the first period but after recess, Mohammad Kisekka’s side grew into the game through winger Bashir Mutanda and midfielder Jude Ssemugabi launching several attacks.

The pressure finally paid off when towering defender Soulyamane Bamba headed in left back Jasper Ahebwa’s corner to make it 1-1 with thirteen minutes to go.

The Red Eagles tried to push for the second goal but all attempts were foiled by a hard working Mbarara City midfield.

Erick Kambale protects the ball from Mbarara City midfielder Pistis Barenge.

Head coach Wasswa Bbosa was impressed with a point away from home but decried the wasted chances in the game.

“The game was ok, we could have killed off the game in the first half because we had many chances which we didn’t use and in the second half the game was more physical, they pinned us a lot using long balls that said, getting a point here is worth it” He stated.

The point put the Red Eagles on 5 points from 3 games with one win and two draws.

Godfrey Lwesibawa going past Mbarara City left back Jasper Ahebwa.

They will be back in action on Saturday 19th against archrivals SC Villa at Wankulukulu.
