MATCH REPORT: Express FC, KCCA FC Share Spoils In Cup Quarter Final First Leg Tie.
Express FC and KCCA FC, both record equalling cup winners (10 titles each) shared spoils (0-0) in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Quarter final first leg played on Wednesday 26th May at the Betway Muteesa II stadium Wankulukuku.

Both sides started off on a slow pace but it was the hosts who got the first chance in the 10th minute, winger Martin Kizza broke through on the left flank and found an incoming Godfrey Lwesibawa but his poor finish went over the bar.

Two minutes later, Herbet Achai was inches away from giving KCCA FC the lead but his effort was punched out by Denis Otim with a finger tip save.
Arthur Kiggundu in the 14th minute had a glorious chance in the box to fire home the lead but his shot was blocked by Musa Ramathan although Express FC players protested for a handball but centre referee Ssali Mashoodi waved play on and that was just about it in the first period.

After recess, the Red Eagles came out chasing the game, Godfrey Lwesibawa and Martin Kizza on either flanks managed to neutralize KCCA FC’s attacks as they pressed forward.

With 10 minutes left, Erick Kambale was fouled on the edge of the box and a freekick was awarded, the inform forward stepped up and almost made it count but Charles Lukwago made a fantastic save, both teams played it out till the end and wait for the return leg.

REACTIONS.
Wasswa Bbosa – Head Coach.
“We’ve managed a goalless draw, we had few chances which we didn’t convert but we’re going back to correct our mistakes so that we can win the return leg, the most important thing is we didn’t concede, what we want is to score a goal to qualify what I know is the boys will do the needful and we shall qualify”.

Asked about the National team call ups which saw three players make the Cranes Squad ahead of the international friendly against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, the head coach stated we should have had more summons.

“I think the summons should be more from our side, we have so many players who have performed very well in the league, we’ve had situations where upto 6 players from one team are summoned and I think the same should happen for us so I am not happy about the number of summoned players”.

The Stanbic Uganda Cup Quarter Final return leg against KCCA FC will take place on 4th June at the MTN Phillip Omondi Stadium.
