MATCH REPORT: Express FC Dispatch Kyetume FC To Book Round Of 16 Cup Berth.

Express FC picked up a 1-0 win over fellow league outfit Kyetume FC to advance 3-2 on aggregate to the Stanbic Uganda cup round of 16 at the the Betway Muteesa II stadium Wankulukuku on Saturday evening.

The fixture was a return leg after the first game had ended 2-2. Substitute Frank Kalanda converted from 12 yards with three minutes of normal time left.

The first half saw both teams contain eachother with nothing to write home about save for Mutyaba Muzamiru on six minutes who tried to break down the Kyetume FC defence and shoot but Joel Mutakubwa collected the shot calmly.

Pacey winger Martin Kizza almost broke the deadlock five minutes later when he neatly cut in from the left but his cross was calmly cleared by Mustafa Mujuzi.

After the break, Kyetume FC tried to penetrate through the middle but Yaya Mahad Kakooza on several attempts foiled their attacks.

The hosts kept pushing and the break through came with three minutes to go, winger Martin Kizza made his way into the box and was fouled as he tried to control the ball, centre referee Rajab Bakasambe pointed to the spot and up stepped Frank Kalanda who made no mistake to make it 1-0.

The win means Wasswa Bossa’s charges advance to the round of 16 with a 3-2 aggregate victory.

“The most important thing is we managed to win and stay in the competition, the Uganda cup only requires you to win, we managed the game well and managed to win, now our focus turns to the league, the Tuesday game is huge and we don’t take it for granted so our focus is to keep our momentum going by winning on Tuesday (Vs S.C. Villa).”

“We managed to win today, we’re very glad that we managed to keep a clean sheet, I want to thank all the players, they we’re determined and committed because we played as a team to get the result, I also want to thank the coaches because they selected a good team and also prepared us well, for me they’re the reason why we won. Now we focus on the draw (round of 16) but whoever we get we’re prepared and for the Tuesday game (Vs S.C Villa) we’re motivated and we shall surely prepare and win it”.

Express FC shift their focus to the Uganda Premier League and next up is an away trip to arch rivals S.C Villa on Wednesday at the Bombo Military grounds. The Red Eagles won the first leg 1-0.
