MATCH REPORT: EXPRESS FC COMPLETE LEAGUE DOUBLE OVER POLICE FC.

Express FC produced an emphatic display on a wet Saturday evening after they dispatched Police FC 2 – 0 to complete a league double against the cops.

Forward Erick Kambale and winger Godfrey Lwesibawa scored in either half to ensure the maximum points.

The game was delayed by 20 minutes because the pitch had to be re-marked following a heavy down pour but none the less the game kicked off although on a slow pace.

Martin Kizza could have given the hosts the lead on three minutes but his shot was punched over the bar by Police FC shot stopper Derrick Ochan but just a minute later, the latter would rue his decision.

Erick Kambale broke through but his over run ball was met by goalkeeper Derrick Ochan who tried to clear the ball but his clearence moved a few inches due to the wet surface, Kambale then pounced on it and slotted home to make it 1-0.

The goal pretty much summed up the first period which was summarized by stop play situations due to the wet and slippery playing surface.

After recess, both sides traded cautiously but the Red Eagles came out of the blocks faster, just three minutes after restart, winger Godfrey Lwesibawa broke through on the left and used a tight angle to beat Derrick Ochan with his powerful shot making it 2 – 0.

The cops tried to come back into the game in the 70th minute when midfielder Mahad Yaya Kakooza was adjudged to have fouled Duncun Sseninde leaving center referee Shamila Nabadda with no option but to award a penalty.

Up stepped Ben Ocen but Mathias Muwanga had other ideas, diving to the right to deny Ocen and send the home crowd into wild cheers, it was his second penalty save from open play this season.

Substitute Frank Kalanda on two occasions fluffed one on one situations with fantastic passes from Martin Kizza and Godfrey Lwesibawa and that pretty much wrapped up the game.

The win was Express FC’s 7th home victory and remain third level on points with Vipers but the defending league champions have a superior goal difference.

“We’ve been doing our best to prepare the boys and today the determination and focus was evident, the weather made it harder but during our preparations we knew we would have such a situation but again credit to the boys, we now focus on our next assignment away to Kyetume FC next week”.

“It was a good fight today, Police are a good and stubborn team but the boys put in a shift, the difference today was we put in more effort and fought harder. To win the Man of the Match award is a great motivation but I didn’t do it alone, credit goes to the entire team and technical bench for the effort. We now focus on our next league game away to Kyetume FC”.

The Red Eagles remain third but level on points (43) with second placed Vipers.
