The Red Eagles cruised to a comfortable 3-1 win against Bright Stars on UPL matchday 29 thanks to goals from Kayiwa, Ocholit and Odur.

Head coach George Ssimwogerere on his birthday made a total of nine changes from the team that played against Bright Stars on Sunday giving debut starts for Ocholit, Batega and Ssekyembe under his second Express stint.

He talked to the press after the game and below is what he said.

On the team’s performance…

As I told you earlier that football is all about preparations, I’m also preparing now I have started to know where my players play and what they can do and what they are supposed to do. They are enjoying the system we’re playing because they are understanding it now so on my birthday they have helped me and gave me three goals so I’m very happy.

On whether it was just a birthday party or the game they play has changed…

No, we prepare for this it doesn’t just come from no where like when you produce a kid and tomorrow it goes to fetch water, we go in stages as we monitor the players like today I have started with Batega he is a new player he has never played since I came but he has managed the backline well though he made a mistake in conceeding the own goal but he played well, my job is to prepare the team. Even if Nkata (Billy) enters you don’t see the difference the team remains in it’s shape and that doesn’t come in a day, it takes time.

On relating the previous game to this one and the Uganda Cup semifinal second leg coming up…

As I said earlier football is all about preparing the way you get ready for Uganda Cup isn’t the way you get ready for the league game. So I’m expecting to prepare Uganda Cup the way I’m supposed to and I will do when the time is right.

On where he sees his team in Uganda Cup..

I want to win the cup, I’m in the semifinals so all I want is to win it.

On Ocholit and Ssekyembe’s performances…

I don’t speak about my players because I prepare them but the problem we have with the fans they want us to give birth to a kid them send it to fetch water straight away and make it do a lot of things but for me I prepare my players. I have coached Ocholit for 2 months without selecting him so it’s time for him to show what he can do. For example I was given Moses Aduny here in Express in 2007 when he couldn’t even play well then I prepared him for six months then I gave him a game against Villa at Nambole and he scored a goal then got even a national call up so I prepare the player and take him where he is supposed to be because if they don’t play well it pains me an vise versa. He (Ocholit) still wanted to play but I substituted him because he got a small injury and I wanted to prepare him for the next game.
