
FT’ Express 0-0 Mbarara City | Match Report
The Red Eagles drew 0-0 with Mbarara City on Matchday 23 at Wankulukuku
The match begun with both sides conscious and it was Express to get the first chance at goal
Disan Galiwango from the left flank whipped in a well weighed cross and it was a little bit high for Tony Odur who headed over the bar
Birungi got a chance for Express and his well taken shot was blocked by former Red Eagle Ronnie Kisekka who stayed down in pain with only 9 minutes gone. The player received treatment and he was cleared to continue.
Paul Mucureezi who was well taken care of by Pius Mbidde got a chance to run at our goal but Mbidde pegged him back and he was booked for that despite being necessary for his team.
Zaga was at the thick of things in the 26th minute for Express but his shot was again blocked by Mbarara City defense led by their captain Hillary Mukundane.
Galiwango again crossed from the left and this time it was Birungi on the receiving end and it was high for him and the ball just went begging to hand Mbarara a throw in deep in their half.
Mbarara City came in attack and won two successive corners. The first one was headed away into another corner by the Express defense and another cleared to safety by our defense.
Birungi had another shot blocked and the visitors conceded a corner. Express brought in the ball and it was cleared. Mbarara got a chance for the counter and Zaga fouled their attacker Orit. They were awarded a free kick and our defense cleared the resulting ball away. The ref blew the final whistle with both team level at 0-0
Paul Mucureezi kept quiet by a very hardworking Pius Mbidde got two early chances at goal in the second half but both didn’t trouble our defense. The first one was well collected by Muwanga and another one went well wide.
Ivan Mbowa marshaled the defensive midfield of Mbarara and got Zaga twice in the first half but escaped any booking. In the second half he did the same and the ref booked him this time round.
Express made a double change at the 58th minute, Brian Umony and Davis Mayanja replacing Tony Odur and Ibrahim Kayiwa respectively.
Disan Galiwango got the best chance of the day on an evening were both teams struggled to create chances. His shot from a distance found Mbarara goalkeeper Ali Kimera well alert an he punched it over the bar to give Express a corner. The resulting ball was cleared by a well composed Mbarara defense.
Disan Galiwango again was put in a crossing position by his teammates but Kisekka was again in position to head away the cross with Umony lurking behind him.
Express made the final change in the 81st minute youngster Badru Nsubuga coming on the Zaga who looked a little bit jaded after missing the last two games.
Mayanja got the last chance for us but his shot from midfield went well wide.
There was an injury scare in the 89th minute after our goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga was down injured with our substitutes over but he was able to continue after receiving treatment from our doctors.
Ivan Eyam was fouled in the added time and Mbarara were awarded a free kick in our half for the last chance of the game. Barenge stood behind the ball and brought in a nice ball but Muwanga saved it and the ref blew the final whistle with both teams not getting the match winner.
What next for the Red Eagles?
The Red Eagles will be back in action on Monday 11th March against BUL FC in the Uganda Cup 1/4 final match at Wankulukuku.
