#EXPURA | Match Report | Red Eagles Draw Blanks With URA in Their Opening Fixture

The long wait was finally over as the Red Eagles faced URA in their first game since beating Masavu 1-0 at Bugonga on the last day of the 2017/18 UPL season.

Red Eagles warming up before the game

Coach kefa Kisala named a strong 11 led by Julius Ntambi and Tony Odur in attack. Express started on the high but couldn’t break a well organized backline thanks to coach Sam Ssimbwa’s organization.

Kambale Eric got the first real chance of the game after twisting and turning to beat two defenders then creating shooting space but the shot had less power and the URA keeper Alionzi Nafian got down well and saved.

Express goalkeeper Tony Kyamera nearly finished to whole half without any realistic test thanks to Express centre back Shafiq Kakeeto who was well organized and commanding the defense superbly. His game reading earned him match of the match award. He was so smart and never made any error or being sloppy in his possession

Kakeeto was well up to the task

The first half ended goalless and both sides didn’t really give the fans so much to cheer about. The second half Express came back in a better mood and wanted to take all three points but URA were up to the task of all questions asked them.

Peter Lwasa got an early chance after getting space and shot but Express goalkeeper Tony Kyamera gathered well to keep the game level. He was a little nervous in the game but went on to gain confidence and grew in the game as it progressed.

The left flank was the more productive for Express with a couple of crosses coming from leftback Disan Galiwango setting up Odur and Kambale. The first chance fell on Odur but his header was weak and saved by the goalkeeper. Eric Kambale again was in the spotlight with probably the best chance of the game after superbly controlling a well weighed ball from Mayanja who came on for injured Badru Nsubuga but his well taken shot was blocked by a defender and went out for a corner.

Midfielder Ibrahim Kayiwa got another chance with space in the middle then came the roar to shoot from the Express crowd and he didn’t hesitate but his shot wasn’t strong enough and Alionzi saved it denying Express a winning start to the season.
