#EXPPOL | Express 0 (4) – 0 (1) Police | How It Happened

The Red Eagles qualified to the quarter finals of the Uganda Cup after beating Police 4-1 on penalties.

The Red Eagles started on the bright note through Michael Birungi, the attacker ran down the right wing in the very first minute and shot his shot well wide. He was again up in arms with them and crossed for Mubaraka but Police intercepted well and cleared well.

The Red Eagles got another chance after Disan Galiwango was fouled and Revita brought in a well measured ball and found Kayiwa at the back of the Police defense and tapped in but the keeper Davis Mutebi was well placed and punched over the bar.

Another chance again came Express’ way in the first minute of added time in the first half Michael Birungi again running down the right and beat Mutebi with his shot but Police captain Paul Willa cleared the ball off the line.

The first half ended 0-0

Police got the best chance of the second half after Revita failed to clear his lines. Muwanga got out of his goal to close him down as well as Kakeeto and forced Jumah Balinya to put the ball wide. Kakeeto got injured in the process and he was replaced by Lawrence Kigonya. Muwanga was also injured but luckily he got up and he was able to continue.

Mutanga lost possession in the 63rd minute and Police attacked but our defense was quick to close them down and forced the ball into the corner.

Express brought on Umony and Odur in the second half to improve their attack but Police defended well and there was no way through.

Police striker Jumah Balinya who had a quiet day tried a shot from a distance but went well wide.

The Ref blew the final whistle and we headed to penalties.

Express took the first penalty and Michael Birungi scored. Police sent forward Ruben Kimera and he scored.

Express sent forward Disan Galiwango and he sent the keeper the wrong way. Jumah Balinya who had a quiet day in the 90 minutes took Police’s second and Muwanga saved.

Lawrence Kigonya stepped up for us and scored in the roof of the net, arguably the best penalty of the evening. Police sent forward former Red Eagle Edgar Bwogi and Muwanga saved again.

The time for the winning penalty came and non other than Tony Odur stepped up to score the winning penalty. The striker made no mistake and scored superbly to send us through to the quarter finals.
