#EXPMAR | FT’ Express 1-1 Maroons | Five Things We Noticed
The Red Eagles came from a goal down to get a point against Maroons which isn’t the best they wanted but at least they got a point which helped them move a place up the table and avoid what would have been an embarrassing home defeat against a side just a place above relegation.
Here are the five things we noticed.
Red Eagles not giving up
After conceding from a mistake Maroons defense tightened up at the back. Coach George Ssimwogerere who had brought on Odur five minutes before conceding for Kayiwa added on Umony to look for the equalizer. The boys kept pushing until they won a penalty with only five minutes to go and converted it to get the equalizer.
Umony and Odur made the difference
With the game on the line Umony collected the ball from the left and pushed his way into the box. The striker was brought down by towering defender Martin Mpuuga and the Red Eagles were awarded a penalty.
Odur stepped up to take and took his time with the stadium in a very silent mode as everyone waited for him to kick the ball. He found the net and helped us get a point.
Both players came on in the second half for Kayiwa and Mubaraka Nsubuga and delivered leading from the front.
Odur clinical from the spot
Odur took his fourth penalty and scored it to make it 4 out of 4 from the spot. After taking responsibility against Police to take the winning penalty the striker was at it again as Umony was tripped by Mpuuga to win a penalty for Express. The number 10 requested for the ball and scored the penalty again to salvage a point for the Red Eagles. He has scored his penalties against Vipers, Water, Police and Maroons.
Second man of the match award for Zaga
The midfielder joined Express from Vipers in January and it is safe to say that he is enjoying his time at Wankulukuku. After putting in a man of the match performance against Nyamityobora were he scored his first ever UPL goal and Express goal, against Maroons he was again the top performer from the middle of the pitch linking play between defense and attack with his passes and immense work rate. He tried two shots on goal one in the first half which didn’t trouble Akol so much in Maroons goal and another in the second half which flew over the bar. He is an important player for the club.
Red Eagles moved a place with a point
The Red Eagles started the game in 10th position with 24 points. A point gained on Matchday 20 helped them move to 25 points and 9th on the table leapfrogging Bright Stars who were defeated 3-0 by Vipers on the same matchday. The Red Eagles will be visiting Ndejje University in Bombo on Tuesday 26th December another team struggling in the relegation battle and they will hope to build on the point gained against Maroons.
