The Red Eagles drew 1-1 with Maroons at Wankulukuku on UPL matchday 20.

Maroons whipped in an early cross but captain Isaac Mutanga got down and headed away, Express was gifted with an early counterattack but Birungi put his shot over the bar.

Maroons tried to bring their striker in the game with 14 minutes gone crossing the ball to Herman Wasswa but his header went over the bar.

Zaga proved to be the best player for Express on the day twisting and turning but his first effort went wide with Akol in Maroons’ goal untroubled.

Express had a half chance in the 34th minute after Birungi collected a loose ball and his shot was blocked. Zaga was present to rebound but his effort went wide.

Zaga had another chance after twisting and turning again to toy his marker but his shot lacked enough energy to beat Akol and went wide. The ref added 2 minutes and the game ended 0-0 at halftime with only a single goal on target by both teams from Zaga who was later crowned the Pilsner man of the match.

Maroons started the first half with a better display and got a corner with only three minutes gone. Majwega brought it in and Galiwango headed it away marking the near post.

Express made their first change in the 51st minute brining on Odur for Kayiwa in search for goals.

However, it was Maroons who got the first goal. A corner was brought in and Muwanga punches it but it remained in the area. He went up to collect it and poorly calculated the ball which went out of his hands and fell in Solomon Walusimbi’s way to give Maroons the lead with 55 minutes gone.

Maroons came back again shortly after scoring but the ball went wide.

Express got two free kicks in succession both didn’t yield a lot.

Express made their second change at the hour mark with Brian Umony replacing Mubaraka Nsubuga.

Maroons continued to put pressure and nearly got the second from a Pius Obuya shot but Muwanga got down well and saved for a corner.

Zaga again was on the attack for Express creating a half chance for himself but his shot from a distance went wide.

Express made their final change with only 10 minutes to go bringing on Joel Male for Disan Galiwango to try and get the equalizer.

With only five minute to go Brian Umony collected the ball from the left and got in the 18-yards box then clipped by a Maroons defender and Express was awarded a penalty.

Tony Odur stepped up and scored to level matters and bring Express back into the game.

The ref added 3 minutes minutes and neither team utilized them well to get something constructive. He blew the final whistle with scores level 1-1 and a point for each team.

What next for the Red Eagles?

They will be back in action on Tuesday 26th February against Ndejje University Lions away in Bimbo on Uganda Premier League matchday 21.
