Cyrus Kibande Upbeat Ahead of His Second UPL Season
Cyrus Kibande cannot wait to start the season, his second in the Uganda Premier League. The young defender joined Express at the start of the 2019/ 2020 season from Terranova FC after a successful trial stint alongside his other teammates Frank Ssenyondo and Joshua Musoke.
The calm defender had a very good season as he went on to be the leader of our defense under coach George Ssimwogere and later coach Wasswa Bbosa. He also had a stint as a defensive midfielder as new signings Isa Lumu and Arthur Kiggundu played in central defense.
We talked to him about the past season, new signings and his goal ahead of the new season, and below is what he said.
On the new signings…
According to me, the new recruits are not bad and I think that we shall compete in the league because they are young, understand easily, talented, do what the coaches tell them to do, and disciplined. All in all, with them there is a big chance or a high probability of winning the trophy.
On his targets for the upcoming season…
First and foremost, I want to work hard and get a trophy for my team Express FC, secondly, I also want to join the national team level, then thirdly, I want also to be on market, being in papers all the time so that even if the club decides to sell me abroad, the club can, those are my targets for the upcoming season.
On his first season in the top flight…
To me, I think my first season in the UPL was not all bad and was not all good coz I had started well and at the end, I was injured which pained me till to date because I had also hope of joining either under national team or CHAN team because my performance was not all that bad depending to those ones who were called on the national team.

On working with coach Bbosa…
He has made me learn many things in the football industry and outside football, he is a coach who means business if it’s time for work and a coach who jokes after work, he is a coach who can make a player to play more than one number meaning that he can build a player, anyway I won’t talk much on my coach but I just loud it that is a very good coach to me and I think even for Express FC.
On his long term injury against Kyetume at Namboole…
At times I don’t even want to talk about it because it makes me cry because my target was also joining the CHAN team but when that happened, I was weakened a lot until I again encouraged my self, that’s the reason as to why you saw me on my come back I came with the same performance on Tooro game but still I was left out, so to me I think it’s my injury which made me be out.
The defender managed to come back from that injury and won the man of the match award against Tooro United at Kavumba his first games in 8 months.
