Tamale who won three league titles and three Uganda cup titles in the early 90’s was part of the 1995 Express FC squad that reached the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League losing out to eventual winners Orlando Pirates and the “Cameraman” says returning to continental football is a major milestone for the club.

“I firstly want to appreciate the Chairman, board, technical team and the secretariate for a fantastic job done, to be honest it has been a real fight for the club to return to this level, winning the league is a huge statement but also for the club to return to continental football for the first time in 26 years is even a better feeling, we now need to prepare better and play as a unit to progress as far as possible in the competition”. He stressed.

Express FC were crowned league champions for a 7th time in the club’s history on 29th June 2021 following a decision made by the FUFA executive committee which saw the league cancelled in line with Article 18, Section 1, sub-section C & D of the FUFA Competitions rules, which allow the federation to determine the champions once the league is suspended after playing 75 percent of the league matches.

The Red Eagles kickoff their continental journey in the first week of September although the draws are yet to be done by CAF.
