The Red Eagles fought hard but fell to a late Muhindo Kambale rebound.
BUL started the first half on the front foot and tested Muwanga with a through ball but the keeper was off his line quickly to save and keep the score line level.
Express tried to get in the game through debutant Joel Male and Disan Galiwango on the left side o attack but BUL kept on defending well and their keeper was tested a few times in the first half.
Tibita crossed for Ojok and the striker rose superbly and headed wide with the goal gapping.
Express got a corner in the 11th minute Kayiwa headed it goal wards but the BUL defender cleared it off the line.
The biggest chance for the Red Eagles came in the 36th minute after a corner was poorly defended by BUL and the ball fell to Kayiwa. His first shot was blocked by the defenders and Mutanga came rushing from midfield and his shot was blocked again by the defense.
Another half chance for Express came from Musoke’s cross but Mayanja sent his header well wide.
The halftime whistle was blown by Okello Lee with both teams still looking for the elusive opener.
In the 68th minute captain Davis Mayanja injured his knee and was replaced by Pius Mbidde to make the first change for Express.
Joel Male who had a very good show on his first start was replaced by Brian Umony in the 77th minute to make our second change.
Express’ biggest change came in the 66th after Mubaraka Nsubuga was fouled on his way to the box and Disan stood behind the ball to take the free kick. He struck it so well and forced and acrobatic save from BUL goalkeeper Hanington Sebwalunyo into a corner.
After the 90 minutes the fourth official raised the board to signal three minutes and the game clearly destined for a stalemate.
BUL got the all important goal in the 91st minute. A hard shot from the edge of the box was saved by Muwanga but unfortunately into the path of BUL striker Muhindo Kambale who pounced on the rebound a shot which was hard for Muwanga who got his hands onto it but found its way into the goal to give the hosts the lead.
What next for the Red Eagles?
They will be visiting Nyamityobora on Wednesday 13th February at Kakyeeka Stadium in Mbarara.
